After living with the album for half a week, I’m sold. James Mercer and Danger Mouse have put together a solid debut. Those folks wanting to hear the old Shins will be disappointed. This is a new direction, with just Mercer’s vocals sounding familiar. But considered as a new entity without the comparison baggage, Broken Bells shine.
