Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream
I missed this album when it came out in 2009. It has some fun, chill, poppy tracks. Especially this one. I think I first heard this song on my favorite surfing movie Picaresque. I heard it again at a bar on Saturday night and decided it stands on its own (ie didn’t require awesome surfing to be awesome).
OK IVAN, IM TRYING TO POST AGAIN! ;)
Young The Giant - My Body
Some rock is just fun. The first time I listened to The Killers I thought it was fun. The first time I listened to Kings of Leon I thought it was fun. Young The Giant has their own sound (ie not a Killers or KOL copycat), but the first time I heard them I thought they were… FUN! And their live show rocks. Hope you enjoy…
Geographer - Kites
Such fun synthy dancey indie rock. I was at a Dawes show a couple months ago and the venue background music really stood out. We Shazaamed it and I have been obsessed with this EP ever since. Finally saw them live last Friday and it was a fantastic show.
The Head and The Heart - Down in the Valley
One of the best albums I have heard this year. I have been listening to it on repeat for the last month. Took forever to pick a song to share. My favorite album since Local Natives.
Laura Marling - Blackberry Stone
I have been wanting to post from Laura Marling’s excellent album for a while but struggled with choosing a track. The album has a lot of breadth, “Blackberry Stone” starts off quiet but builds to a level that only suggests her later intensity. A couple tracks sounds very influenced by her boyfriend, Mr. Mumford. Thanks for the reminder David!
Dan Mangan - The Indie Queens Are Waiting
Love this whole album, I must have listened to it five times today already. Hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do. Beautiful folk that compares favorably to Damien Rice if you like that kind of thing.
Matthew & The Atlas - I Will Remain
This is really good. I love all the great new folk that has been coming out the last few years.
Matthew & The Atlas | I Will Remain
Yesterday, @david sent me a dm on twitter turning me on to Matthew & The Atlas. And I’m very happy he did that.

Matthew & The Atlas | I Will Remain
Ian Hooper dropped four of Matthew’s tracks to my Spotify inbox and I Will Remain has been stuck on replay for an hour and is the stand-out track from his EP To The North which I just got it from iTunes. Hush hush, go and grab it.
By the way, Matthew releases via Communion Records, Mumford & Sons’ label.
Beach House - Apple Orchard
Similar to my LCDS post: if you love Beach House’s album “Teen Dream” then make sure you listen to their earlier albums. This track off their first album (of three so far) has a beautiful mellowness that (in retrospect) suggests where their sound will evolve to.
Dirty Projectors + Bjork - When The World Comes To An End
Fun collaboration EP from the above artists. Interesting that it was written before Bitte Orca (although only recorded recently). I love listening to the ladies of Dirty Projectors use their voices as instruments.
